Our Initiatives

At the Whittenton Community Partnership, we are committed to building a thriving, inclusive, and resilient Whittenton. Our initiatives are designed to strengthen the local economy, enhance quality of life, and foster a vibrant sense of community pride. Each project reflects our collaborative approach, working closely with residents, businesses, and partners to create lasting, positive change.

1. Community Identity and Marketing

We are shaping a strong, unified identity for Whittenton. Through new branding, including the development of the official Whittenton logo, pole banners, and storytelling campaigns via social media, we highlight the unique character, history, and future of our district. We are also proud to announce the launch of WhittentonVillage.com, our official website, serving as a hub for news, resources, and community updates. In partnership with Bristol-Plymouth Vocational Technical High School, we are commissioning a sculpture made from recycled flatware from the historic Reed & Barton silver mill — a creative project that honors Whittenton's rich industrial legacy. This initiative brings together local artists, business owners, and residents to celebrate and promote Whittenton as a dynamic and vibrant destination.

2. Wayfinding Enhancements

Clear, welcoming signage is critical for creating a walkable, accessible neighborhood. We are leading efforts to install branded gateway signs, pedestrian wayfinding, and coordinated directional signage throughout Whittenton. These improvements help visitors and residents easily navigate the district while reinforcing Whittenton’s identity and character.

3. Storefront Beautification

A vibrant, attractive streetscape supports both small businesses and community pride. Through our storefront beautification program, we work directly with local businesses to enhance curb appeal — from updated signage and lighting to creative window displays and façade improvements. By making storefronts more inviting, we drive foot traffic, support local entrepreneurs, and contribute to a more welcoming Whittenton for everyone.

4. Business Support and Economic Vitality

Supporting our small businesses is at the heart of our mission. We work closely with local entrepreneurs to help them thrive through targeted technical assistance, marketing campaigns, workshops, and special events that drive foot traffic and new opportunities.

Through MassDevelopment’s TDI (Transformative Development Initiative) program, the Whittenton Partnership has been able to bring in expert partners like PrepShift and Medium Studio to work one-on-one with qualifying local small businesses. These partnerships offer tailored support in areas such as marketing and rebranding, financial literacy, and operational efficiency, providing vital tools for business owners to strengthen and grow their operations.

5. Real Estate and Development Advocacy

We advocate for responsible development that aligns with the community’s needs and values. The Whittenton Partnership works closely with property owners to secure funding through MassDevelopment's TDI Equity Investment and Underutilized Properties Program (UPP), helping bring vital redevelopment projects to life.

We also collaborate with landlords and the City of Taunton's Office of Economic and Community Development to identify and advertise vacancies. Our goal is to match available spaces with small businesses that meet the expressed needs of the community — ensuring that new businesses complement and strengthen Whittenton’s character. From leading and facilitating community-wide focus groups to ensure that residents’ voices were heard by the City and developers during the Whittenton Mills redevelopment process, to advancing projects like the Loft Resilience Hub at 321 Bay Street, the Whittenton Partnership is committed to making sure that growth in Whittenton is inclusive, strategic, and community-centered.

5. Green Spaces and Resiliency

Access to nature, environmental sustainability, and community resilience are at the core of our vision for Whittenton’s future.

The Whittenton Partnership is proud to support the development of The Loft Resilience Hub by the True Collective  at 321 Bay Street — a community-centered project that will serve as both a climate resilience resource and a green workforce development center. The Loft will offer training opportunities, community gathering spaces, and resources designed to prepare Whittenton residents for a changing economy and environment.

Additionally, following a series of community focus groups hosted by the Partnership, we successfully advocated for the addition of a community greenhouse within the upcoming Grey Star Whittenton Mills redevelopment complex. This greenhouse will serve as a living classroom for sustainable agriculture, food security initiatives, and environmental education — directly shaped by the voices and needs of Whittenton residents.

6. Community Engagement and Leadership Development

Whittenton’s strength lies in its people. Through focus groups, events, and, we empower residents to take an active role in shaping their neighborhood’s future.

One of our signature initiatives is the Annual Whittenton Village Block Party, a vibrant, family-friendly celebration that brings neighbors together for live entertainment, local food, kids' activities, and more. Thanks to the generous support of sponsors and the hard work of volunteers, the Block Party remains free and open to the public — ensuring that everyone in the community can participate and enjoy.

We are also proud to revive the spirit of the beloved "Whittenton Day" from years past. This new rendition honors Whittenton’s traditions while creating new memories, connecting longtime residents with newcomers, and showcasing the heart and pride of our neighborhood.
